My side is splitting from holding in my laughter while reading an article online at a coffee shop. One of the frustrating things about being a geek in the real world is there is a whole body of knowledge that most people do not understand. Most of my friends, my wife, my parents, they are all on the “outside” of the geek culture. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but when gems like this come up it’s so frustrating to look around and realize that no one else in the room will appreciate the joke. Argh! I’m so alone! :-)
Bill Gates was whining about competitors who refused to sit by and get shut out of their products when Windows Vista comes out next year. Gates says that these competitors are trying to “castrate” the product. The article then goes on to make the joke of the day…if “Vista gets castrated, does it just become one of many UNIX?”

I thought that this was as good a time as any to profess my alegiance to the Colbert Nation. I LOVE the Colbert Report (Pronounced: Colber Repor) and it’s sister show, The Daily Show. I love them so much that I purchased multi-passes for both shows on iTunes. But I didn’t always love them. They can thank YouTube.Yes, YouTube. They’ve been under fire recently for selling out to Google and then freaking out when Comedy Central’s lawyers threatened to sue if they don’t take down the user submitted clips of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. But, since my wife and I don’t have cable (we don’t even have a working TV! Thank you Netflix!) I had only heard rumours of these genius shows that broach excellent content under wit and irony. So…
